Chapter One :Chapter 1

Her head was throbbing, so intensively it felt like thousands of ants were crawling around in her brain.

Fu Qinli frowned, her thin fingers pressing against her temples. A string of images, both kindred and alien flooded into her cerebrum making her instinctively shut her eyes.

"Li? Are you awake, Li?" A gentle voice caressed her ears. Fu Qinli's cousin carefully shook her arm, her eyes seeped with worry.

Fu Qinying jumped back when Qinli abruptly shot her eyes open and gripping her hand tightly, her gaze as sharp as a blade: "So annoying."

"You're fine...that's good. You scared me," Qinying managed a feeble grin, stepping back in fright.

At that moment, a middle-aged woman on the other side breathed a sigh of relief, then roared irately: "You dare to play dead with me? I'll beat you up today!"

As she raised her plump hand to slap Qinli, the latter, still in a daze, instinctively dodged, nearly losing her balance.

Just then, a stout little boy rushed over, yelling childishly: "Sister!" He tried to help Qinli steady herself, his puffy eyes were glistening like juicy grapes.

"Yao...Yao..." Fu Qinli instinctively called out his name, subsequently freezing in place. This was the very brother of that girl from her memory.

Lowering her eyes to glance at the strange clothes she wore and her surroundings, everything felt eerily familiar, mirroring the scenery from that sudden memory of the girl's residence.

She couldn't piece everything together. She could remember drinking the new emperor's poison, yet why was she still alive? Was it reincarnation or spirit possession? The familiar yet foreign objects around her left her heart in turmoil.

Still grappling with the situation, the middle-aged woman reached out for Yao. Fu Qinli, swift as lightning, pulled her brother behind her. She didn't quite understand what was going on, but the instinct to protect her brother was deeply etched into her bones.

The memory of the girl's last scene before her death raced through Fu Qinli's mind causing her to shudder. The poor girl had begged her not to take her only brother away, the sight was heart wrenching.

Taken aback by this thought, Fu Qinli made a silent vow to never let the woman before her take her brother away. Suppressing her dizziness and gnashing her teeth, she growled, "If you want to take him away today, you have to step over my dead body!"

After the original host's parents passed away, this woman tricked the original host into signing with sweet talk, and swindled compensation from the airline company. Now she even set her sights on the house, truly insatiable in her greed.

This villa was purchased by the host’s father after a hard-earned promotion at work, even the down payment had emptied the family's savings. Little did they know, an unexpected event struck their younger brother and his wife, and Uncle Fu’s family started to harbor ill intentions.

Only today did the original host realize she was tricked, and refused to hand over the management of the house to them. Seeing this, this group of people decided to target the only male in the family.

During the argument, the original host was pushed down by Aunt Fu and fatally hit her head on the corner of the table. Immediately after that, Fu Qinli reincarnated in this place.

Understanding the cause and effect, Fu Qinli couldn't help but sigh for the girl's misfortune. The face of Uncle Fu’s family was so ugly.

Cai Shuqin, frowning at her niece, was making calculations in her heart. The girl's reaction was out of expectation, it seemed that it was going to be troublesome today to take away Fu Qinyao. She was secretly planning to get the house through Fu Qinyao and then throw the little brat back to his sister to avoid having another mouth to feed.

Uncle Fu snuck a glance at his wife and tapped on the table thoughtfully. The second brother's family has a male offspring, naturally the house belongs to Qinyao. A girl would become part of someone else's family after marriage.

Since they couldn't persuade Fu Qinli, they might as well find a way to bring Qinyao to their own home. Conveniently, they didn't have a son, after a hundred years Fu Qinyao could hold a vigil for them. By then, they would have both a house and a son, simply perfect.

Uncle Fu was delighted, imagining having Fu Qinyao this nephew to honor himself in the future. Who would have thought about how envious he was of his brother? That damned little brother had been a genius since childhood, whether in learning or looks he was superior, his wife was a beautiful orphan and a university graduate. Even the children they bore were better than his.

He and his wife had been married for many years and had only given birth to a daughter, even his parents didn't think much of their family. They had thought that the second brother's family only had a daughter too, who knew that six years ago they had an extra son. The old couple was even more partial to the second brother’s family, which made them grit their teeth but they didn't dare to say anything.

If it had not been for the passing of the parents three years ago, they would probably still be at the bottom. They never expected that God turned a blind eye, whether it's fate or for whatever reason, the death of this brother truly delighted him secretly.

The couple exchanged glances, and their gaze was unanimously on Fu Qinyao. The little guy, peeping at Uncle, hid behind his sister, thinking that their looks were so terrible...

Fu Qinli sneered, it's really annoying that her body is now so weak, she, born in the Martial General’s family, the daughter of the household of the Duke who guarded the country, couldn’t even make a little effort.

"Quit your nonsense, Fu Qinyao must come home with me today," Cai Shuqin said as she prepared to take action.

Fu Qinli, sensing the urgency, caught sight of the fruit knife on the table from the corner of her eye, picked it up without a second thought, and thrust it at Uncle Fu and the others.

A gust of heavy wind swept across her brow as few strands of her hair dropped on the floor.

Uncle Fu, scared to death, was pale as a sheet, his heart beating like a drum with fear.

Fu Qinli, not giving a thought to her own state of dizziness, raised her knife again toward Cai Shuqin while shouting, "I won't live long either way. We might as well die together!"

Uncle Fu, wide-eyed and taken aback, stared at his once sweet and innocent niece, turned menacing. He tightened his grip around the compensation money, his newly begun good life was not supposed to end here.

Fu Qinli fought like a cornered beast, swinging her knife wildly. The sharp blade left deep scars on the sturdy wooden chair beside her.

Faced with this intense and frenzied attack, Uncle Fu and others became scared out of their wits. Calling out to his wife and children, he managed to stagger out of the door.

The matter of the house could be discussed slowly, once the insane little girl calms down.

Suddenly, the world fell into silence. Fu Qinli's long-strained will finally collapsed, and everything went black before her. She fell to the ground unconscious.

In the moments before losing her consciousness, she seemed to see her little brother Fu Qinyao with tears streaming down his face. How she longed to soothe his fear, to pat his head...

In the darkness, Fu Qinli seemed to experience a long and strange dream. In her dream, she travelled through different times and spaces: a cold execution ground, a bustling city, the ancient Great Wei Dynasty, modern buildings. She was constantly changing between traditional and modern attire until both finally melded together.

Fu Qinli suddenly opened her eyes.

She saw pristine white walls and her nose was filled with the pungent smell of disinfectants. She must be in a medical clinic. No, it's called a hospital now.

Thinking back to the moment before she fainted, Fu Qinli suddenly sat up.

"Sister!" Fu Qinyao, who was lying on the bed's edge, got a shock but soon tears of joy appeared on his face, as he saw his sister finally awaken, "Sister, you are finally awake. Qinyao was terrified..."

Seeing her brother, Fu Qin Yao, safe and sound, Fu Qin Li gently stroked his hair. Now that she had crossed into this body, she made a silent vow to take good care of him.

Thinking of her new resolution, Fu Qin Li gently reassured, "Your sister is alright, don't be afraid. Why am I in the hospital, though?"

Fu Qin Yao instantly straightened up, his face beaming with pride. "Sister, it was I who used your fingerprint to unlock your phone, and dialled 120!" He puffed out his small chest, as if awaiting praise.

A wave of warmth swept over Fu Qin Li. Despite his usual preoccupation with mobile games, this little chap proved reliable in times of crisis. She indulgently smoothed his hair, "Our Yao Yao is truly remarkable."

Seeing the facade of composure on her brother's young face, she was reminded of her sibling from her past life who had been beheaded. A flood of memories washed over her. She had been the legitimate daughter of the Duke of the Wei Dynasty, groomed by her parents to be the prince's consort. Unfortunately, their happiness was short-lived. After failing to secure the succession, her entire family was slain, sparing not even her six-year-old brother.

Recalling that autumn day when her brother trembled on the execution ground but kept his spine straight, and the final scene where fresh blood dyed the ground, her heart ached. She herself had been given a poisoned chalice, thanks to the royal jade butterfly.

Without realizing it, tears soaked her face. Fu Qin Yao became anxious and tugged at the bedsheet restlessly. "Sister, why are you crying? Are you in pain somewhere?"

Coming to her senses, Fu Qin Li quickly wiped her tears and comforted him in a soft voice, "It's nothing Yao Yao, sister just thought of some things." She drew a deep breath, smiling, "Let’s get ready to go home. From now on, sister will take good care of you."

From that moment onwards, she was the only family Fu Qin Yao had. Fu Qin Li swore to herself to protect this little one at all costs in this second chance at life.
